Minister of Information, Chernor Bah, Refutes Claims of Disagreement Over MCC Compact Program
In response to recent claims by journalist Amadu Lamrana Bah regarding alleged disagreements among government officials over credit for the recently signed US$480 million MCC Compact, Minister of Information and Communications, Chernor Bah, has firmly emphasized the unity within the government.
Addressing the journalist’s post, Chernor Bah, known as CeeBah, remarked, “Na so ‘serious disagreement’ don look now? My brother, once again you seem to be interested in generating controversy where none exists.” His statement was a direct challenge to the narrative of internal discord, reaffirming that the government remains a united front in its accomplishments.
CeeBah reiterated that President Julius Maada Bio has been clear in acknowledging the collective efforts of his team during a reception in Washington, DC. He highlighted the President's remark, “My team is thanking me, but they did the work,” as evidence of the government’s collaborative approach. According to the Minister, the concept of “TEAM” is central to the government’s achievements, underscoring that success is the result of many hands working together, rather than the effort of a single individual.
He further emphasized that every Sierra Leonean, including journalists like Bah, should take pride in the country’s achievements. “As a Sierra Leonean, you should take credit too, and that won’t amount to serious disagreement. Government is not one person,” he said, dismissing the notion of division within the administration.
Chernor Bah also took the opportunity to highlight the contributions of key government officials in securing the MCC Compact. He praised Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh for his critical role in navigating the complexities of the process, and Chief Minister Dr. David Sengeh for his work in lifting a congressional hold on the Compact. The Minister also recognized the continuous efforts of the Anti-Corruption Commission, which played a crucial role in the positive outcome of the corruption scorecard.
Furthermore, the Finance Minister's management of the economy was lauded as a vital element in achieving the Compact, while Ndeye Koroma and the MCC office were commended for their diligent and outstanding work.
Concluding his remarks, CeeBah reinforced the message of unity: “We are one government. One incredible team of Sierra Leoneans assembled by our visionary leader to deliver for the people of Sierra Leone. You also contributed by your reporting.”
