President Bio Advocates for Strategic Partnerships at OpenAg Symposium 2024
On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio delivered a powerful keynote address at the OpenAg Symposium held at Oxford University, calling for strategic partnerships to tackle the adverse effects of climate change on global water and energy resources.
In his address, President Bio emphasized the need for innovative solutions to mitigate the impact of climate change, particularly in water and energy security, which are crucial for sustainable agricultural practices. He highlighted Sierra Leone's openness to collaboration in agricultural research and partnerships that could bolster the country’s "Feed Salone" agenda—a national initiative aimed at enhancing food security through sustainable agricultural development.
President Bio expressed his gratitude to the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development, UPL, and other partners and investors for organizing the symposium, which promotes actionable solutions for global agricultural development.
The 2024 OpenAg Symposium focused on the interconnectedness of food systems, energy security, and water security in the context of climate resilience. Sustainable agricultural practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions were also highlighted as critical to combating climate change. By adopting these practices, the agricultural sector can play a vital role in securing resources for the future while also contributing to the economic stability of farmers and nations globally.
Bringing together international experts, policymakers, and industry leaders, this year’s symposium provided a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration on strategies to transform food, energy, and water systems through sustainable agriculture.
This important gathering further underscores Sierra Leone's commitment to addressing climate change and securing a sustainable future for its people through strategic global partnerships.
