President Bio Calls for Global Action on Injustice and Fair Representation at FOCAC Summit

President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone has issued a compelling appeal for immediate global measures to address injustice and ensure equitable representation during his address at the High-Level Event on Global Peace and Security, held as part of the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit in Beijing.

In his remarks, President Bio underscored Africa's pressing need for fair representation on international platforms, particularly within the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). He stressed that Africa, a continent that has borne the brunt of numerous conflicts, must be granted a more influential role in global decision-making processes.

"The current international framework perpetuates disparities that jeopardize peace and security,"  President Bio remarked. He criticized the prevailing mindset that prioritizes self-interest over fairness, asserting that this approach undermines and destabilizes global peace.

As the Chair of the African Union’s Committee of Ten on UNSC Reform, President Bio reiterated Africa’s longstanding demand for two permanent seats on the Security Council. He argued that the continent’s marginalization diminishes the UNSC’s capacity to effectively address global challenges.

"Ensuring Africa’s rightful representation will empower the United Nations to confront global issues more effectively, fostering a world grounded in justice and peace," President Bio asserted.

In concluding his address, President Bio urged world leaders to place justice and fairness at the core of their global agendas. He emphasized the critical need for unity, warning that divisions and destructive competition threaten humanity's collective progress. He called for a concerted effort to secure peace and development for all.

President Bio's call to action underscores the critical importance of inclusive representation and equitable global governance as cornerstones for enduring peace and security.
